Dr.
Imran Sarker
Dr. Imran Sarker is a renowned Medicine specialist and Neurologist of Bangladesh. He is also an emerging geriatric (elderly patient) neurologist, expert in Parkinson’s & Movement Disorders and various Dementia patients. He was graduated from Mymensingh Medical College with merit position under the University of Dhaka, Bangladseh in 2005. Thereafter, He joined Bangladesh Civil Service (BCS) through 27th BCS in 2008.Dr. Imran Sarker first became Medicine Specialist by attaining the degree, Member of the
College of Physicians and Surgeons (MCPS) in Internal Medicine in 2012 from Bangladesh College of Physicians and Surgeons. In 2016, Dr. Sarker became Neurologist by obtaining Doctor of Medicine (MD) Neurology, the highest degree in Neurology from Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujib Medical University (BSMMU), Dhaka, Bangladesh. Thereafter, He joined National Institute of Neurosciences and Hospital (NINS&H), Dhaka, Bangladesh as Registrar (Neurology).
In the period of 2017-2018, Dr. Sarker went to University of Malaya
Medical Centre (UMMC), Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia to complete the fellowship in
Parkinson’s & Movement Disorder under direct supervision of Professor
Shen-Yang Lim, the then Secretary General of International Parkinson and
Movement Disorder Society Asian and Oceanian Section (MDS-AOS). During his
fellowship in UMMC, He was trained in managing Parkinson’s and other Movement
Disorder patients, giving injection Botulinum NeuroToxin (BoNT) and also
selection, planning and programming of patients in need of Deep Brain
Stimulation (DBS) Surgery.
Besides, Dr. Sarker actively participated in various training & workshop
related to Neurology, Parkinson’s & Movement Disorder and Dementia
nationally and internationally including presentation of research paper in
various Seminars, Symposia and conferences in home and abroad. In 2021, Dr. Sarker obtained Fellow of the
College of Physicians and Surgeons (FCPS) in Neurology from the Bangladesh
College of Physicians and Surgeons (BCPS). Notably, Dr. Imran Sarker is the only Bangladeshi to achieve the two highest
degree; MD & FCPS at a stretch in the history of Neurology in Bangladesh.
Dr. Sarker completed
an online training on dementia from August -December '2022 arranged by Trinity
College, Dublin, UK under the guidance of International Dementia Academy South
Asia (IDASA).
During the period of July
-August'2023 Dr. Imran Sarker
attended the prestigious International Parkinson's & Movement Disorder
Society's (MDS) Educational Course "A Comprehensive Review of Movement
Disorders for the Clinical Practitioner" at Aspen, Colorado, USA.
Dr. Imran Sarker is life member of various national professional bodies like Society of
Neurologists of Bangladesh (SNB), Movement Disorder Society of Bangladesh
(MDSB), Bangladesh Medical Association (BMA), Bangladesh Society of Medicine
(BSM), Association of Physicians of Bangladesh (APB). He is also honorary
member of various international societies like American College of Physicians
(MACP), American Academy of Neurology (MAAN), International Parkinson &
Movement Disorder Society (MDS). Dr.
Sarker is involved in many research activities on Parkinson’s Disease,
Movement Disorders and Dementia in home and abroad. He is the Principal
Investigator at NINS in the multicenter global study of Parkinson’s Disease
under Global Parkinson’s Genetics Program (GP2) in Collaboration with
University of Luebeck, Germany and Michael J. Fox Foundation, USA. He has a
good number of articles published in reputed peer reviewed national and
international Journals. He is also honorary member of Editorial Board of
Biannual journal; Bangladesh Journal of Neurosciences (BJN).
Currently, Dr. Imran Sarker holds the position of Assistant Professor in the
department of Neurology of National Institute of Neurosciences and Hospital
(NINS&H, He is involved in teaching and training of residents and fellows
of MD & FCPS Neurology courses, managing OPD and indoor patients specially
Parkinson’s & Movement Disorder and Dementia patients attending NINS.
